Rear Cabin:
Double cabin bed to stern with 12v reading lights, large pull-out drawers and double cupboard under.
Work station to starboard side with 12v reading light and 240v socket.
Ensuite shower / wet room with resin-set tiled floor, w/c to black water holding tank, sink unit. Whale ‘gulper’ shower pump out, 12v light and extractor fan.
Rear cabin has further 12v lighting and 240v socket.
Heating is via central-heating radiator and antique solid fuel stove to port and there is access to the engine room via a water-tight door.
Bathroom:
Luxurious full-sized double-ended bath built into forward bulkhead and having shower mixer tap and 12v pump out.
Bathroom also has Blakes classic w/c (water pickup via ‘sea’ cock and pump out to holding tank), radiator, wash basin, 12v lighting, 4 brass portholes and teak starlight over bath.
Bathroom also houses glow-worm combi boiler and as this is an LPG domestic unit, rapid heat-up of central heating radiators can be achieved with plenty of power for showering in winter (unlike ‘caravan’ units).
Full access to bilge areas has been maintained and there is access to pumps and plumbing under bath via a large access hatch.
Lounge / salon:
Attractive fitted shelving under gunwale area for books / CDs.
A central heating radiator to starboard and antique solid fuel stove to port heats the lounge area. Combined with 4 brass portholes, this area has a relaxing ‘homely’ feel.
12v lighting and 240v sockets are provided and full access to bilge area has been maintained.
Engine and propulsion system:
Volvo D47 6cyl naturally aspirated diesel, 100hp. Engine is flexibly mounted and coupled to Hurth HBW220 2:1 reduction gearbox.
Full access is provided to prop-shaft components (plumber-block bearing supports, stern tube greaser and Quietlife QL-DB3 flexible shaft coupling with thrust bearing) via lift-up boards in rear cabin. Access to engine room is via door in rear cabin (earlier) and two doors (above engine) in wheelhouse.
The engine starts readily in all weather conditions and has had all new filters fitted and injectors serviced (2008).
Propulsion system provides ample power for manoeuvrability on the inland waterways system and has been proven on the owners’ recent trip on the Humber Estuary.
Engine is indirectly cooled by external cooling pipes (protected against impact by plates) and there is both a manual and 12v bilge pump fitted to the engine room.
Owner has fitted a proprotector rope cutter to the propeller shaft and this is worth every penny!
There is ample space in the engine room to maintain and service all components easily and there is also sufficient space to install a generating unit, if required.
Electrical systems:
240v shoreline hook-up feeds Sterling 1500w pure-sine fully automatic inverter-charger. This set-up provides automatic reinstatement of mains power to circuits following shoreline failure, full programmable battery management and unit has a programmable shore-power sharing facility to avoid tripping restricted power outlets.
All 240v circuits are fully RCD protected and fused and cabling is installed in flexible conduit.
500AH domestic service battery bank and 240AH engine starting battery bank located in engine room with inverter unit. Batteries are separated by Vetus split charging unit and are charged by 90A Prestolite ‘marine’ alternator (2008) and monitored by 2 shunted ammeters.
Battery interconnects are 25 sq.mm (4awg) multi-strand as per BSS and all 12v feeds to respective domestic fused supplies are 10 sq.mm multi-strand cabling.
Earth bonding, dedicated negative return for all 12v systems, with a galvanic isolator fitted to the shore 240v inlet.
All lighting to all areas is 12v and all sockets are 240v.
Specifications:De Hoop Doet Leven REDUCED
(The Hope Does Live)
General:
She has been sympathetically converted and she retains her gorgeous lines. Many features have been added such as sliding steel window covers and a canvas ‘cargo’ hold cover to enhance her traditional Dutch looks.
Good ground tackle including a substantial anchor and manual winch for river / estuary work.
She is an easy barge to handle thanks to the ample power / manoeuvrability provided by the Volvo diesel unit and well-designed swim.
Overall, the specification of her conversion has been designed with live-aboard / extended cruising in mind and she would be equally at home on the Continental waterways as she is on the broad English waterways.
She is a gorgeously proportioned little ship, attracting comments wherever she goes and is a pleasure to own and cruise.
Wheelhouse:
Fully demountable (easy and quick) varnished / painted teak wheelhouse providing shelter and 360degree visibility.
Map/chart table / seat to aft, 2 bi-fold doors to port / starboard, engine monitoring gauges inc. rudder position indicator, navigation lights, horn, VHF (ATIS), screen wiper.
Hydraulic steering system is installed with manual steering possible at stern (in emergency).
Wheelhouse also provides access to engine (below) and access to rear cabin / front accommodation via steps to front and rear.
Exterior finishes:
Deck paints by International, 4 coats of blacking last winter, very presentable with many details added.
Heating and water systems:
Glow-worm balanced flue combi boiler professionally fitted and converted to LPG (CORGI registered installer) provides unlimited hot water in all weather conditions. Boiler also heats radiators in saloon / lounge, bathroom and rear cabin (ensuite and bedroom areas).
Fresh water tanks are sited in forward bulkhead in three stainless tanks totalling 1000L. Pressure is provided via twin 12v pumping system (located in forward bulkhead area) feeding accumulator tank and large carbon filters. All fresh water is filtered and tastes like evian!
Black water tank is fitted amidships and therefore does not affect the trim of the boat from full to empty. The tank is fitted full-length port-to-starboard and is of stainless steel construction.
Capacity is 800L giving over 2 months’ use (with room to spare) between pump-outs. The tank is sufficiently large to convert to a grey water holding tank if future legislation warrants.
Galley:
Fully fitted galley with built-in gas oven, inset 4 burner gas hob, Electrolux 3-way fridge, separate washer and dryer, stainless drainer and sink, drinking water fountain, ample storage provided, 12v lighting and 240v sockets.
All cabinets are in oak and white laminate with brass fittings.
There is a beautifully crafted roof hatch with all-brass fittings providing light and ventilation.
Galley has access panels to mains junction box and 12v fuse panel. Access to bilge area has been maintained.
